Resolved!

I am excited about the year 2013!!! I will turn 26, finish my 3rd year of teaching, and start my 4th year of teaching! It will (hopefully) be the first year since 2005 that I haven't had to move all of my things out during the summer. I will be fully committed to Durham, and that is something I've been looking forward to for quite a while.

I've decided to share my goals for 2013!
  1. Read for 30 minutes every day.
  2. Record which books I read & what I thought about them. (this is mainly because of how forgetful i am). Follow me on goodreads!!
  3. Finish all of the books that I have started and abandoned. I'm embarrassed to say that there are many of these sitting on my bookshelf.
  4. Learn Spanish? (for real this time) But Rosetta Stone is $400! Eek!
  5. Figure out how to flip (or at least semi-flip) my classroom. Maybe make videos over the summer?
  6. Establish a fun YouTube presence. Vlogs? Song parodies? Science vids?
  7. Remember what I do this year by recording it somehow. Pictures, videos, blogs, etc. I'm sad to say that I feel like I forget a lot of the fun things I get to do.
I think that these are some attainable goals... I've already kept up my reading, and just finished the first book of 2013. So accomplished so soon!!!

2012 In Review

Perhaps I'm a little late in reviewing my 2012, but it happens. Here goes! (format inspired by Coco)

  • January: rang in the new year with great friends at Ben Haven // finished knitting my first ever baby blanket // coached swimming & cheerleading at the same time (#mistake)

  • March: got spring fever // went to my first Hurricanes hockey game // watched RHS brain game almost win the championship! // watched a town hall forum on whether or not to approve fracking in NC (spoiler alert: they approved it; we're doomed) // had to deflect rumors of my (definitely false) engagement that surfaced on FB & spread through RHS

  • May: saw Feist in concert! // my class beat another class in Kickball // started coaching swimming for Eno Valley

  • July: celebrated America // participated in my first DSSL champs swim meet // went "glamping" with the girls... aka wore lots of glitter to watch the Bachelorette finale // Kara B & Jerry road-tripped down to NC // went to South of the Border // saw Tallest Man on Earth at Haw River Ballroom // held the very first crafternoon! // helped with various climate workshops
  • August: crafted SO MUCH // watched the olympics SO MUCH // got obsessed with Doctor Who and watched it SO MUCH // got to do program at Windy Gap for the first time (my 10th grade self was squealing) // became a YouTube sensation // started my 3rd year of teaching // celebrated the Blue Moon
  • September: taught // blogged // got a Donors Choose grant funded
  • October: web conferenced with Jonathan Safran Foer // chilled with my ladies at Ben Haven // dressed like a tiger at school // got to go to Rockbridge! // experienced the best pizza I have ever eaten (fried egg pizza @ Pizzeria Toro) // defied gravity // saw Punch Brothers at Memorial Hall
  • November: voted // presented thrice at NCSTA // revamped the f-word mix // Grannie came to Durham! // saw SUFJAN at Haw River Ballroom!
  • December: made some funny videos // made serious business of hanging out w/ durham friends // caught up with my college besties // celebrated my half birthday // participated in many tacky sweater parties // topped it all of in BELIZE!!!
I think that was more for me than for everyone else. And I know I missed some things.

But 2012 ROCKED! I'm not sad about the way that year turned out! All the other times were filled in with fun and relaxation and stress and nonstress and general enjoyment. Here's to a delicious 2013. Yay!!!
